Over at my jasonhalf.com site, I had a great time in November 2018 moderating an all-readers-invited Internet discussion of Gladys Mitchell's lively 1929 mystery/farce, THE MYSTERY OF A BUTCHER'S SHOP.

For my next selection, I'm planning to announce a GM title from the 1930s. You can expect an announcement before the end of this month, and reading will likely take place over four weeks in April or poss...

This week, the first blog entries were published to celebrate the group reading event of The Mystery of a Butcher's Shop (1929). I'm delighted that so many people are participating, and I have been hearing very positive comments about the discussion and the topics being explored. It's a bit of work, but it's also great fun to put together.

You can find the first two posts here:

Hello mystery fiction readers and Gladys Mitchell fans (and those discovering her writing for the first time) --

I am thrilled to announce the launch of a new, interactive reading event: the MITCHELL MYSTERY READING GROUP! In November, I invite everyone to read 1929's lively Mrs. Bradley tale THE MYSTERY OF A BUTCHER'S SHOP and join an ongoing discussion with other readers.

How will this happen? I'm hos...

For a while, I have not added much to The Stone House, my Gladys Mitchell tribute site. There are a couple reasons for this: first, nearly all of the author's mysteries, historical novels, and children's books are represented with summaries and reviews that I had the great pleasure of writing over the years.

Second, I am adding new reviews of classic and contemporary crime fiction over at my other site...

Most of the new review posts occur at my other site, www.jasonhalf.com , where I read and discuss a number of Golden Age Mystery and contemporary crime authors (with some literature picks occasionally thrown in).

You can view my contributions right from this site by choosing the OTHER AUTHORS tab at the top and viewing the titles and authors represented. Right now I'm working on providing reviews for a...

While nearly all of the Gladys Mitchell book titles are represented at The Stone House with a personal synopsis and review, I add one long-absent entry to the group: a review of 1949's adventure story for girls, The Seven Stones Mystery

As I mention in the review, part of Mitchell's interest in creating a story series for young readers seems to be the inspiration of, and affection for, the students s...

Nearly all of Gladys Mitchell's mysteries and books have original summaries and reviews available on this site, but there are a few titles that still need representation.

I am pleased to report that I have finally added a synopsis and review for GRAND MASTER (1939), Mitchell's last title published under her pseudonym of Stephen Hockaby. It is an ambitious, adventurous book, and one that definitely show...

I'm very happy to announce that Gladys Mitchell's lively detective Mrs. Bradley makes an appearance in the current issue of ALFRED HITCHCOCK MYSTERY MAGAZINE (May/June 2017).

Editor Linda Landrigan asked me if I would  choose a Gladys Mitchell short story for the magazine's "Mystery Classic" feature and contribute an introduction of the story and author. The winning tale was 1940's "Dai...

Welcome to the new version of The Stone House, my tribute website to Gladys Mitchell and her lively psycho-analyst detective, Mrs. Beatrice Adela Lestrange Bradley.

I began the website -- which is named after Mrs. Bradley's home on the edge of the New Forest, referenced in The Mystery of a Butcher's Shop and other novels -- way back in 2001 as a way to share some information about the author...
